Visiting a Lilac Farm
My favorite flower ever is the lilac. I remember my grandmother giving me lilac bunches from her yard and stuffing my face in them the whole ride home, intoxicated by the scent. Whenever I see them in the wild or in a shop, I have to literally stop and smell the lilacs. So when I discovered that there is a whole farm of lilacs in Southern California, I had to pay a visit.
Kilcoyne Lilac Farm is located in the town of Acton, California, in the Antelope Valley, just 50 miles from Los Angeles; Makes for the perfect day trip. They sell potted plants and cut flowers, and allow visitors to roam the farm and enjoy the rows and rows of growing lilacs.
The dark purple bunches are Monge Lilac, popular with floral designers.
The light purple bunches are Common Lilac, known for their strong fragrance.
“When I would sell at the corner, people would get so excited about them, usually relating them to a special person, place or time in their lives. I wasn't just selling them flowers. I was reminding them of a happy memory.” - Elizabeth, Kilcoyne Lilac Farm
